NEIL - HOW ARE YOU JIM?
JAMES - yeah, I'm good...considering..
N - CAN YOU TELL ME A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR HISTORY LIKE WHERE YOU WERE BORN BROUGHT UP WHAT LIFE WAS LIKE?
J - yeah, I was born and brought up in a small mining village in West Fife called Blairhall. I'm the oldest of 6 and life was good, surrounde by family and friends who looked after you...village life..
N - DO YOU COME FROM A MUSICAL FAMILY?
J - music was a big part of my family...my brother and I learned to play piano when we were young and at school I played clarinet and sax.
N - HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH MUSIC?
J - as I said previous, at school, plus my grandfather and aunt played piano...but really got involved when my cousins formed a band in the early 80's and asked me to play keyboards for them...been playing ever since..
N - UNITIL RECENTLY YOU WERE THE MANAGER AT " THE WOODSTOCK" VENUE IN WELLWOOD DUNFERMLINE, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE VENUE?
J - I'm not gonna comment on this Question bud, sorry..
N - DID YOU HAVE ANY MAJOR BANDS PLAY AT THE WOODSTOCK AND WAS IT A POPULAR VENUE?
J - I had a lot of great bands play, and I mean great musicians...just lately Goldbade played there, as did Carol Hodge and her band The Wrecks...Graham Forbes done a stint with The Coffins...good times, was a popular venue, more and more people finding out about us...like any other small venu, but we catered for the smaller bands, looked after them and gave them a good stage and sound..
N- HOW DID THE WOODSTOCK GET ITS NAME?
J - haha, good question, a local had the name for the club as a laugh, Woodstock so I just thought we'd keep the name for the music club.
N - HAVE YOU ANY PLANS TO OPEN ANOTHER VENUE?
J - watch this space is all I'm saying for the moment.
N - WHAT MUSIC OR PERSON/S IN LIFE HAVE INFLUENCED YOUR LIFE?
J - The Velvets and Lou Reed were a massive influence on me as was early Bowie, Iggy, Zappa etc..
N- YOU ARE IN A BAND CALLED " THE GLOOP" CAN YOU TELL ME A BIT ABOUT THEM , HAVE YOU RECORDED ANY MUSIC AND CAN IT BE BOUGHT?
Hah, ThEGLo0P...originally Slurpy Glo0p, formed in 1984 in DunfermlineFresh back from the 80`s Slurpy Glo0p now known as "ThE Glo0p" comprise of James Barney Ward (Chugger Dwang') (Keys, Vox), Michael McNeil (Arfur Rightus)(Geetar), Andy Bowman (Oily Bilge(Bass) and Wayne Robertson(The One And Only Feefee Balbero) (Drums)... (JBW, whilst lying in his hospital bed after recovering from surgery due to suffering a brain haemorrhage had the idea of bringing the 80's Electronic outfit Slurpy Glo0p back together again after an absence of 25years...) Born with a desire to be different, ThE Glo0P, since their inception in the early 80`s,(the band have went through many changes in their line up since}, strove to do the unique, and still doing it Music was meant to disturb as well as delight, rip your guts as well as your expectations, and firebomb you out of the curse of complacency. Easy listening? For sure - if you’re tired of the mainstream rock formula. The DIY ethic of the post-punk experimentalism where, for a few bob, you could create your own lo-fi electronic dream inspired "ThE Glo0P" to record the classic, “I Heard It In A Bathtub In Ohio”. A nonsensical title for an album deliberately irrelevant for the dark, earnest angst contained therein - a message in a vinyl bottle belongs in the transcendentally shallow shell of a death-making system? Born free, yet everywhere in chains,"ThE Glo0P" implore us to defy the odds.. Musical influences include the Velvets, Krautrock, early Roxy & Eno, though, to be honest, you'd struggle to hear these threads as "ThE Glo0p" still posses this awkward desire to be different. All styles served here - reject nothing but make it your own. These days "The Glo0P" are beefier and bouncier. Psycho-delic elektronica or elektronic psycho-rocka-delica? Who cares? "ThE Glo0p" have never set out to please anybody but themselves - they write the music they like - they play and perform it the way that they like. Recently "The Glo0P" acquired the services of Wayne Robertson,(Drummer/Percussionist) who has added another dimension to the band with his superb, unique drumming style. Go and liberate your ears. Your Slurpy needs Glo0p. "Mon ThE Glo0P"!!! Zhibleek, Zhiblo0k, "ThE Glo0p" 2013.
